About Jeff Barnes
My career has never followed a traditional path.
I studied Communication and Film in college and began my career working on independent film productions before moving into television. Along California's Central Coast, I worked as a production assistant, editor, and fill-in live news director for NBC and CBS affiliates, and independent film production experiences that deepened my appreciation for storytelling, audience engagement, and the collaborative nature of media production.
Those early experiences sparked a broader interest in visual storytelling, design, and emerging digital media. What began as a passion for content creation gradually expanded into entrepreneurship, business development, marketing, and organizational leadership.
That path eventually led to the co-founding of ComputerCafe Group, which grew to include CaféFX, The Syndicate, and Sententia Entertainment. Working alongside an exceptional leadership team, artists, producers, and technologists, we built a collection of businesses serving major studios, agencies, and entertainment brands while generating more than $180 million in revenue over their lifetime.
Following ComputerCafe Group, I joined Digital Domain Media Group before moving into leadership roles at Lytro and later Light Field Lab, where I served as a founding employee and executive team member. These experiences allowed me to work at the intersection of creativity, technology, business development, marketing, and strategic partnerships, helping organizations communicate complex ideas in ways that resonate with customers, investors, partners, and audiences.
Throughout my career, I have been drawn to the challenge of translating ideas into experiences people can understand, engage with, and remember. From visual effects and immersive experiences to branding initiatives, investor presentations, editorial content, and market positioning, I have always enjoyed helping organizations communicate their vision and build meaningful connections.
I have also long been passionate about design and experience creation. Whether helping shape creative workspaces, developing experiential projects such as the Harry Potter attractions and the SETI First Contact Experience, or exploring new ways for audiences to engage with content and technology, I enjoy the challenge of transforming ideas into something tangible, memorable, and meaningful.
Beyond my professional roles, I had the privilege of serving as Chairman and Executive Board Member of the Visual Effects Society, the industry's leading global professional organization, and was later recognized as a VES Fellow.
Today, I remain energized by opportunities that combine creative thinking, strategic relationships, and practical execution. I continue to explore emerging technologies, including AI-powered tools and workflows, not as an end in themselves, but as tools that can help individuals and organizations work smarter, communicate more effectively, and bring new ideas to market.
Whether supporting a growing company, advising a new venture, helping an organization navigate change, or pursuing entrepreneurial opportunities of my own, I remain motivated by the opportunity to connect people, ideas, and possibilities in ways that create meaningful impact.
